Who will be affected?
Unincorporated Businesses: Sole Traders and Landlords
 What are the requirements?
- Maintain digital records of income and expenses for each self-employment.
- Must use MTD IT compatible software.
- Provide digital quarterly updates and a Final Declaration (previously known as Self-Assessment Tax Return).
When will mandation be implemented?
 The Self-employed and/or Landlords who have a combined income above:
- £50,000 – starting from the year commencing 6th April 2026
- £30,000 – starting from the year commencing 6th April 2027
- £20,000 – starting from the year commencing 6th April 2028
Why Is MTD IT being introduced?
- For businesses to have up to date financial information to help with business planning.
- To make sure everyone pays the right amount of tax, so that more money can go to public services and to support growth across the UK.
- Using software has proven to reduce the potential for making errors.
- Supporting wider improvements so HMRC can deliver a better customer experience.
